Mentally Safe Sites: Looking after yourself and your mates
Mental health training for construction workers

On site, we look out for each other’s safety. This course is about doing the same for mental health.

Mentally Safe Sites is a practical online course built for people on the tools. In eight short modules, using real site scenarios, you’ll learn to:

  • spot the signs that you or a mate are struggling
  • manage stress, sleep and fatigue, including when you’re working away
  • recognise when drinking or gambling is starting to cause harm
  • check in on a mate using five simple steps: CHECK in
  • ask directly about suicide, and know exactly what to do next
  • speak up about bullying or unsafe workloads, and find free, confidential help

The course has no exams and very little jargon. It’s built around what to do next. Every page is narrated, and it works on your phone, so you can do it in one sitting or a module at a time at smoko.

Who it’s for: apprentices, tradespeople, labourers, operators and anyone working on site.
Format: online and self-paced, about 2 hours, in eight 15-minute modules.
Includes: a printable CHECK in handout and your own support plan.

This is a non-accredited course. It won’t make you a counsellor. It gives you the confidence to notice, ask, listen and connect a mate with help.
