When a worker says their shoulder’s been aching, is that a problem or just part of the job? This two-part course gives supervisors and PCBUs the answer, and the tools to act on it.
Part 1: Manual Handling for Construction (about 60 minutes) builds the foundation: how musculoskeletal injuries happen, the five characteristics of a hazardous manual task, what makes a task riskier on site, and why fixing the task beats teaching technique.
Part 2: Supervisors and PCBUs (about 30 minutes) puts it into practice. Following Dana, a supervisor on a blockwork job, you’ll work through your duties under WHS law and what “reasonably practicable” really means, assess a real task with your crew, decide what to fix first, write an action plan that stands up, and see what happens when the controls don’t go to plan.
You’ll finish with a printable summary sheet and a fillable Manual Task Assessment and Action Plan, ready for your next job.
You’ll learn how to:
Who it’s for: supervisors, leading hands, foremen, site managers and small business owners. Site workers and apprentices should do Manual Handling for Construction on its own.
For employers: Need to train a whole crew? Contact us about group enrolments or face to face training.
