Civil construction is an exciting part of the sector with interesting roles across the planning, design and creation of major infrastructure projects and this program will provide participants with specialised accredited training and employment pathways.

SPARK and our partners are proud to launch this innovative training program to encourage more women to consider a career in the construction industry. Construction is an exciting sector with interesting roles across traditional trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, bricklaying, concreting, landscaping, roof tiling, plastering, painting and many more. This program will provide participants with specialised accredited training, industry work placements and potential employment pathways within the carpentry, electrical and plumbing sectors.
Please note, those individuals who wish to be considered for this program MUST successfully complete a functional capacity assessment (which includes drug and alcohol testing) before being offered a place on the program.

About the Program:
The Kickstart to Construction program is a joint initiative with the ACT Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services (MARSS), with funding from Skills Canberra, to provide basic language skills training and support to migrants and refugees. This program is funded under the Adult Community Education JobTrainer grants program, a jointly funded initiative of the ACT and Australian governments.
The training will include the mandatory on-site training of White Card, Silica and Asbestos Awareness, as well as non-accredited skills/knowledge training. The training includes a number of introductory topics specific to the building and construction industry, including: tool recognition, signage and symbols, teamwork and communication, and paperwork such as onsite incident reporting.
At the completion of this program, learners are ready to work in the construction industry. To that end, they are also assisted throughout the program to engage employment.
