Mental Health First Aid Training

Learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved.

Up to 70% of the course cost may be refundable to eligible applicants through the ACT Building and Construction Industry Training Fund. We will apply for this refund on your behalf on successful completion of the course.  

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Mental Health First Aid course equips adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker or another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. Participants will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved.

The course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals. It provides an overview of mental illnesses, risk factors, prevalence, and impact before taking a much closer look at the following mental health problems:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Bipolar
  • Substance use problems

The training is run over two six-hour sessions over two days, with the first day of the course on Thursday 14 November and the final day on Thursday 21 November 2024.
