Taking Care of You and Your Workers Leading up to Christmas

Posted

The lead up to Christmas is often a stressful time of the year. When you throw in everything that has happened in 2020, it would not be surprising if you found that this year has taken a greater toll on you.

We are encouraging members to ensure that you are recognising and managing the risks that may lead to both physical and psychological injuries. Psychological injuries must be treated the same as any work-related illness or injury.

Worksafe ACT has produced the following list of symptoms/reactions which might show the effects of a psychological injury:

  • Physical signs: headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, alopecia, loss of appetite
  • Emotional factors: irritability, lack of concentration, anxiety, depression, loss of confidence, low morale
  • Behavioural aspects: poor performance, accidents, poor relationships at home and work, dependence on alcohol, substances, or tobacco

If you are seeing any of the above reactions in your workers, or are even experiencing them yourself, you need to take immediate action.
