Remote Training of Carpentry Program

Posted

This week MBA GT carpentry apprentices spent their first training block in a remote classroom.

Besides a couple of technical glitches on the first day, apprentices were able to access content, speak with their trainer and complete the theory required of the block.

The trainer conducted the session in a similar manner to a classroom setting, using video content, and referencing worksheets and textbook material.

Feedback, from an anonymous survey sent to apprentices, has been positive. Apprentices commented:

· Good fun, new experience.

· Interesting, but it’s more or less the same as sitting in class.

We are encouraging apprentices to capture as much evidence while working on a practical site as possible. Apprentices are provided with a checklist of suitable evidence for them to gather while working on site. This includes: photos, videos etc (when safe to do so) of them completing work and completing Third Party Reports as part of their employer verification.

Apprentices that are unable to demonstrate the practical elements of a training block, will be booked into practical training later in the year.

Kudos to our valued trainers. The work they have endured over the past two weeks, to get MBA GT to a place to continue to support our apprentices and the building and construction industry, has been extraordinary. They have gone from ‘Chippies’ to IT experts.
