Reminder: Silica Training Requirement Extended to 1 October 2023

It was announced on 15 June 2023 that the Minister for Industrial Relations and Workplace Safety has extended the deadline to meet the mandated silica dust awareness training requirement to 1 October 2023.

PCBU’s are reminded that it is the PCBU’s responsibility to ensure that all workers engaged in, or reasonably expected to be, exposed to airborne silica dust as part of their work must complete the 10830NAT course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention by this date.

Despite the extension of the training deadline, PCBU’s must ensure that statutory silica dust control methods are followed on site at all times. Regular inspections are being conducted by WorkSafe ACT to ensure that the new silica dust regulations are being complied with and may result in disciplinary action and/or fines being issued for non-compliance.
