Reminder from Worksafe ACT: Managing Risk and reporting sexual harassment

Posted

Worksafe ACT has recently been informed of a worker who experienced multiple and ongoing sexual harassment at the workplace, before reporting the harassment to their manager.

Members are reminded that the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) has a duty to ensure a safe work environment free of sexual harassment and other risk factors. This includes appropriate reporting mechanisms suitable to the workplace and accessible to the workers.

The risk of sexual harassment is a workplace hazard and must be managed by way of the four-step risk management process:

  1. Identifying hazards
  2. Assessing risks
  3. Controlling risks
  4. Reviewing controls

If you have questions about your responsibility as a PCBU and managing hazards in the workplace, please reach out to our Workplace Relations and Legal Team on (02) 6175 5900.
