MBA has recently fielded a number of enquiries regarding termination of employment and the payment of redundancy (severance) pay.
Members should note that there is an industry-specific redundancy pay scheme provided for under the Building and Construction General On-Site Award 2010 and the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2010. Under these Awards, the Redundancy/Severance pay is payable upon termination except for where there has been serious misconduct or refusal of duty. An employer may off-set a redundancy/severance payment by making payments into a redundancy pay scheme (such as ACIRT).
