New codes of practice released by SafeWork NSW

SafeWork NSW has released four new codes of practice for work health and safety.

These came into effect on 27 March 2026 and provide guidance and support for the industry to manage health and safety risks. The Codes of Practice released are:

• – Collection and transport of waste
• – Safe handling of timber preservatives and recently treated timber 
• – Safe use and storage of agricultural and veterinary chemicals 
• – Tree works

Legislative changes effective from 1 July 2026 will make it a duty to comply with a code of practice or, alternatively, provide a standard of health and safety equivalent to or higher than the code.

Members working in NSW are advised to review the requirements and amend your safety system practices for compliance.
