National Construction Code to Commence on 1 May 2023

The National Construction Code 2022 (NCC 2022) has been amended and has set new minimum standards for new buildings in the ACT.

The NCC 2022 will come into effect from 1 May 2023 and be given legal effect in the ACT through:

• The Building Act 2004 and the Building (ACT Appendix to the Building Code) Determination
• The Water and Sewage Act 2000 and the Water and Sewage (ACT Appendix to the Plumbing Code) Determination

There are some transition periods provided for specific provisions and these are:

• Commencing 1 October 2023 – New livable housing requirements and new energy efficiency and condensation mitigation requirements.
• Commencing 1 September 2025 – new low lead in plumbing product requirements.
