Director Identification Numbers (IDs)

The introduction of Director IDs by the ATO is designed to help stamp out illegal phoenixing and other fraudulent activity, by giving each director a unique identifier that they keep indefinitely. Directors can apply for their ID from November 2022. You will need to set up a MyGovID in preparation.

When you need to apply depends on the date you were appointed as a Director.

  • New directors from 1 November 2021 will need to apply within 28 days of their appointment.
  • Existing directors will have up to 30 November 2022 to apply, but can do so earlier.
