Prior to January 2022 primary and secondary student visa holders’ work hours were restricted to 40 hours a fortnight. These restrictions were removed in January 2022 as a result of shortages caused by the pandemic.
These restrictions will now be reinforced from 1 July 2023 and primary and secondary student visa holders’ working hours will be capped at 48 hours per fortnight.
Employers are advised to continue to follow Australian workplace law as overseas workers, including international students, have the same rights under Australian workplace law as all other employees.
