CEO Update: We Need a Commitment To Our Industry’s Future

Posted

With the ACT election day quickly approaching, this week we are calling for all parties to deliver their election promises for key policy areas affecting our industry.

Master Builders ACT continues to call on both parties to:

  • Commit to mandating that at least 15% of all workers on major ACT funded projects be apprentices or trainees.
  • Fund pre-apprenticeship programmes that help people be job ready and productive right from day one.
  • Raise the profile of trade careers.
  • Temporarily increase funding for Group Training organisations and employers who retain existing apprentices and take on more apprentices.
  • Continue full funding for vocational education and independent training providers and employment services.

We believe it is essential that we have a business-friendly government which backs local businesses to create jobs and grow the economy. To find out more about our election campaign click here.

This week we also launched MBA Legal, which is a legal practice that gives our members access to a legal team who can manage a range of matters on an affordable, fee for service basis. The MBA Legal team can assist with a range of matters including debt recovery, contract advice, dispute resolution, and more.

If you would like to know more please contact the team via legal@mba.org.au, or call (02) 6175 5900 or click here.

October is National Safe Work Month, with this year’s theme being Work Health and Safety through COVID-19. It’s an important reminder to look after your mental health following such a stressful event such as a pandemic. To help support our members we are partnering with OzHelp’s CEO Darren Black as he talks with Master Builders ACT’s Legal Counsel, Kristie Burt, about how informed workplace communities can support safe work practices. The virtual session will be run on Tuesday 29th October 11am – 11:45am via Zoom and will explore how employers can ensure they meet obligations, support worker wellbeing and achieve business success.
