Below-Ground Waterproofing Guidance update

Posted

Standards Australia will progress the modified adoption of BS 8102 (Protection of Below Ground Structures Against Water Ingress) as an Australian Handbook, rather than an Australian Standard.

The Handbook will provide useful guidance for the design and management of water ingress risks in below-ground structures, including basements and retaining elements. As a guidance document, it will not itself create mandatory compliance requirements.

Standards Australia has also indicated that future work may consider a dedicated Australian Standard addressing broader below-ground waterproofing design and installation requirements. Members undertaking these works should continue to ensure the specified waterproofing system, drainage and detailing are suitable for the site conditions and supported by the relevant manufacturer requirements.
