Annual Modern Award Wage Review 2022


The Annual Modern Award Wage Review is currently underway and will come into effect from 1 July 2022. In the lead up to the decision, now is a great time to start thinking about reviewing your employees’ entitlements under the applicable Award.

A Modern Award sets out employee entitlements such as:

  • Minimum pay rates
  • Hours of work
  • Rosters
  • Breaks
  • Allowances
  • Penalty rates
  • Overtime


Don’t be caught out

While many employers generously pay their employees above the minimum rates of pay which are set out in Modern Awards does not exclude them from them being covered by an Award. Therefore, Award entitlements may still apply regardless of their pay rate.

An Award only applies to an employee if –

  • They work in an industry or business covered by an Award
  • They work in a job classification that is covered by the Award
  • They have not been employed to do a job which is excluded from Award coverage (e.g. accountants and finance, marketing, human resources).
