Members are reminded of the importance of thoroughly reviewing all plans and documentation prior to entering into contracts or commencing construction.
In particular, careful consideration should be given to whether performance solutions are required or can be avoided during the design and quoting stage. Identifying these requirements early allows for appropriate pricing, programming, and approvals to be incorporated from the outset.
Performance solutions identified during construction can result in delays, additional costs, and contractual disputes, and may not be considered an “unforeseen circumstance” where they arise from inadequate review of the design documentation.
Taking the time upfront to review plans, specifications, and compliance pathways will assist in reducing risk and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and in accordance with contractual obligations.
