With rising fuel prices impacting project costs, members are encouraged to review how fuel is used across operations to identify savings.
Key areas to consider include:
- Plant and vehicle use: Minimise idle time and ensure equipment is only running when required, including optimum engine operation RPM (operators may be running at high RPMs unnecessarily)
- Delivery planning: Consolidate deliveries and reduce unnecessary trips to site
- Scheduling: Sequence works to avoid repeat travel and double handling
- Maintenance: Keep vehicles and machinery well serviced to improve fuel efficiency
- Operator awareness: Encourage efficient driving and equipment use on site
- Carpool: If the option is available
Small improvements in fuel management can lead to meaningful cost savings across a project.
