MBA Industry Luncheon - Housing Supply & Affordability

Date: 15 July 2024
Time: 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Location: National Press Club
Cost: Member Ticket $180
Non-Member Ticket $220

Housing supply and affordability is one of the most important issues facing our industry, the community, and governments around Australia.

The Federal Government has introduced the National Housing Accord, and whilst it is possible for the ACT to deliver on its share, it won’t be easy. Workforce shortages, market confidence (tied to inflation and interest rates), the high regulatory burden on building businesses and the slow planning approvals all stand in the way of the ACT building more houses – which is needed to address both the housing supply and affordability issues our community is facing. Master Builders ACT has been calling on the ACT Government to invest and support the whole built environment – we can’t build the homes we need without the appropriate commercial and civil infrastructure to support it. This really is a whole of industry issue that we need to discuss and combat together.

Join us at our upcoming Industry Luncheon and hear from Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, the Chair of the National Housing Supply and Affordability Council, and former CEO of Mirvac. Susan will speak on housing supply and housing policy.

This is an opportunity for members across the industry to attend and engage in constructive discussions about our issues with housing supply and affordability, and the policies needed to address these issues. This applies to everyone across the sector, from residential builders who need to know what the market confidence is looking like over the next few years, commercial builders who are responsible for the schools, hospitals and other infrastructure to support the community, civil contractors who will be required to construct roads, bridges and other works, through to the planners, designers, architects and engineers who are involved in all facets of the industry.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions – please feel free to let us know below of any burning questions you may have initially.
