Supervisors, managers & PCBUs (Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking) – responsible for overseeing activities that might involve silica
Health & Safety Officers/Advisers – tasked with implementing risk controls and ensuring compliance
Engineers, architects – involved in planning or specifying materials that contain crystalline silica

Ability to work on a Construction Site – Several jurisdictions, including ACT, NSW, Qld, and across Australia, require this training before employes are allowed on a building site.

Through the duration of this course, participants will learn to recognise the workplace health and safety risks and hazards associated when working with crystalline silica containing products. It will cover how to determine and plan for the implementation of safe systems of work that aim to reduce the exposure within mandatory exposure limits.
The workplace health and safety law has provision that employers or persons conducting a business, or undertaking (PCBU) at a workplace, must ensure that no person at the workplace is exposed to a substance or mixture in an airborne concentration that exceeds the exposure standard for the substance or mixture. This course may assist in meeting your lawful obligations under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.
As advised by ACT Government, penalties may apply for PCBU’s who do not comply with the new mandatory training scheme for workers involved in silica dust work. Occupations that require the training will be broadly aligned with the existing mandatory training requirements for asbestos awareness training. If you are a PCBU – you would need to ensure all workers have undertaken mandatory silica awareness training (applies to ACT).
