Reinstallation of existing engineered stone: conditional exemption granted

Posted

The WHS Commissioner has issued a conditional exemption under WHS Regulation 418F, allowing for the reinstallation of existing engineered stone benchtops, panels or slabs, without processing, where required for repair or access.

What’s changed

Previously, even removal and reinstallation of existing engineered stone was prohibited. Now, if you’re not cutting, polishing or modifying the product, you may reinstall the existing product under specific conditions.

When this applies

  • Cabinetry or plumbing repairs
  • Refurbishments requiring temporary removal
  • Reinstalling the same engineered stone at the same address

Key conditions

  • No new/replacement stone
  • No processing – if processing is required, you must comply with the relevant regulation and notification requirements
  • Must be for access or repair purposes only
  • Stone must be reinstalled in the exact same position that it was removed
