Posted

In addition to the annual Award wage increase, the Fair Work Commission has handed down the increase to the National Minimum Wage which came into effect from 1 July 2024. This saw the National Minimum Wage increase to $915.90 per week or $24.10 per hour. This weekly rate is based on a 38-hour week for a full-time employee.

Employees are entitled to the increased rate from their first full pay period on or after 1 July 2024. This pay increase applies to all employees on a minimum wage rate, including junior employees, employees under a training arrangement, and employees with a disability.

Next Steps

Increases to minimum wage and the Award pay rates, employers are remaindered to ensure they are paying their employees the correct rates. For those using all-inclusive rates or have salary arrangements with their employees, now is the time to assess whether these arrangements still meet the minimum requirements.

If you have an enterprise agreement in place, now is the time to check whether your minimum rates are sufficient and to apply any rate increases which may be in accordance with either the modern Award or CPI increase.
