  1. Icon Water new standards to support ACT Government legislation for water equity in Unit Metering Class B developments

We are writing to continue the updates that Icon Water began sharing about individual Unit Metering and Class B developments in 2024 and last communicated about in early 2025.

An important milestone is coming soon with individual unit metering becoming mandatory for all new Class B Development Applications (DAs) from 1 July 2025.

Developers are responsible for making sure that they comply with Icon Water’s Design and Construction Standards and Guidelines for Class B units published on the Icon Water website here. The Guidelines and Standards may be updated over time, so it is important to refer to the Icon Water website for the most up to date version.

For more detailed information about Class B developments, please refer to the ACT Government’s guidelines.

We will be sending you another email later this month containing individual Unit Metering Class B factsheets and frequently asked questions.

  1. Update to Technical Specification – Survey and Tolerancing Requirements (GDA2020)

Changes have been made to the STD-SPE-C-004 Technical Specification – Survey and Tolerancing Requirements to align to Geodetic Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020), Map Grid of Australia Zone 55 in alignment with ACT Government requirements. We will now be providing and receiving all spatial (GIS) data in the GDA2020 MGA55 coordinate system.

These are available on the Icon Water website here.

  1. Liquid Trade Waste Acceptance Guidelines

We have recently completed a review of liquid trade waste requirements and are proposing changes that include:

  • Introduction of an overarching document covering all aspects of liquid trade waste requirements, with the objective of improving clarity.
  • Updates to guidelines for individual activities to support accessibility and provide greater clarity on acceptance requirements.
  • Updates to criteria and requirements for high-risk discharge, including contaminants of emerging concern, specifically PFAS.

We are encouraging interested parties to have their say and provide feedback by 25 July 2025. To find out more, visit our website.
