Fair Work Commission Finalises Transgrid Agreement

Posted

Fair Work Commission Finalises Transgrid Agreement, read decision here: Application by NSW Electricity Networks Operations Pty Limited as Trustee for NSW Electricity Networks Operations Trust T/A Transgrid – [2024] FWC 2841 | Fair Work Commission

After prolonged negotiations between union and organisation failed to deliver outcome, the Fair Work Commission (FWC) intervened to resolve the Transgrid pay and conditions (enterprise agreement) dispute.

Key outcomes of the decision:

  • 17.5% total pay increase over three years (inclusive of superannuation increases)
  • Back pay to apply from December 2023
  • No changes to Saturday overtime rates despite union request
  • No new work-from-home rights despite union request
  • No changes to contractor management arrangements despite union request

What does this mean for you?

  • We’re seeing an increase in the FWC stepping in to make intractable bargaining workplace determinations, where negotiations stall.
  • This case may set precedent, meaning similar outcomes (like wage increases and back pay) could apply in future workplace agreements if bargaining breaks down.
  • It also reflects growing union influence and how firm positions during bargaining can trigger external intervention by the FWC.
