What is the John Haskins AM Memorial Award?

Master Builders ACT launched the John Haskins AM Memorial Award to be bestowed annually to a deserving member of the ACT building and construction Industry. The individuals to receive this award annually will have shown exceptional leadership qualities and significant contribution to not only the ACT building and construction industry, but the community at large. The award winner will be announced at the Annual Dinner 2023

To be considered for this award the nominee must meet all the following criteria:
Be nominated by a current MBA ACT Member
Be a current MBA ACT Member or be employed by a company that holds a current membership with MBA ACT
Be currently working in the ACT building and construction Industry

About John Haskins AM

A Man whose Legacy Will Stand the Test of Time

John Haskins AM had always been involved in the building and construction industry and, in 1973 joined MBA ACT. John’s extensive experience continued until his death on 14 June 2022. In recognition of John’s substantial contribution to the industry, Master Builders ACT has launched the John Haskins AM Memorial Award. It is understood that, in the history of the Master Builder movement in Australia, no other member has achieved such a high status than that of John.

John contributed substantially to the Master Builders movement at an ACT, national and international level. John was MBA ACT President 1993-1998 and for two interim periods in 1999 and 2013-2014, a past President of MBA Australia and was a Life Member of both MBA Australia and MBA ACT.

John was elected as the 36th International President of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors Association (IFAWPCA) representing 15 countries. He was then elected as Vice President of the Confederation of International Contractors Association (CICA) representing 120 countries worldwide.

In 2003 John was appointed as an Employer Director on the CBUS Board by Master Builders Australia and continued in this position for 10 years. During his time, he also served on the CBUS Audit and Risk Committee.

John was recognized with a Member of the Order of Australia Medal in 2009. The medal was awarded for “his passionate commitment, service and outstanding contributions to the building and construction sector through executive roles with industry organisations and to the community both locally and internationally”.
