Geocon implementation of Project Simpel
Working closely with Simpel, Geocon implemented Simpel’s application resulting in a whole site and workplace WHS risk management solution. Key elements of the application include a central information repository, induction management process, regulatory compliance reporting, site access controls using QR codes and a communications platform to ensure ongoing enforcement of strict WHS protocols. Simpel worked with various builders and developers, including Geocon, to ensure the application that Simpel developed had universal market appeal. As a result of this great working relationship, the application has enabled Geocon to streamline various aspects of the Regulations and Legislation in the ACT to ensure a higher rate of compliance is achieved.”
The Macarthur House Demolition Project involved the demolition of a seven storey high tower with a further
two storeys of plant rooms and adjoining three storey annex building. The demolition required a fully enclosed
perimeter scaffold be in place during the process. It was initially proposed in the tender that a plant would be
required to be craned onto the suspended floors and demolition of the building would occur from the top down.
In consultation with WorkSafe ACT, structural engineers, INDESCO and the client, Brema Group found
an alternate way to eliminate major high risks to the project and provide a safer demolition process.
Overall, the project was a great success and used innovative processes to ensure the safety of all involved.
Gundaroo Drive Stage 02
Woden Contractors were required to duplicate Gundaroo Drive between Gungahlin Drive Intersection and the Barton Highway. This involved working in an area where 23,000 vehicles pass through each day. The bulk of the pavement works for the widening of the existing carriageway were undertaken using a simple stop or slow traffic control method. This allowed the works to be completed ahead of time, in turn Woden Contractors were able to take advantage of existing road closures to begin work on the next element of the project, the bridgeworks, improving the safety for construction workers and the public. By using simple and effective methods to progress the works of this project, safety on the project was significantly improved.
