This stylish U shaped home surrounds a central private courtyard that maximises external site elements such as the views towards and beyond Googong Dam. The southern wing contains the living spaces with eastern views, while to the west is the garage, entry and main bedroom and at the eastern end is the children’s wing. Closing off the top of the “U” is a covered alfresco with a wonderful private and intimate courtyard that captures the northerly sun. The clever design enables the northerly sun to enter all the main living areas. The house is highly energy efficient with excellent orientation, cross ventilation, double glazing, and heavy insulation.

This spectacular modern home was built for the Australian family of today and into the future. The challenge for the design team was to create a warm and cosy feel within an open plan layout. The house takes advantage of a steeply sloping site by providing generous living spaces over three levels, maximising a small 650m2 site. Each level has northeast views and maximises the northern aspect to achieve an impressive 7.8 star energy rating. Robust materials have been used to reinforce the modern industrial language of the residence. A large cantilevered roof creates a strong form revealing a wonderful tall raked internal ceiling.
