The Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS) Australia’s peak workplace safety body is urging tradies across the country to put their health and wellbeing first this Tradies National Health Month.
This month is about changing the mindset—encouraging tradies to actively participate in check-ins, open conversations, and self-care as essential parts of the job.
What are you doing in your business to support our Tradies?
MBACT is supportive of the initiative led by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, encouraging those working in trades and construction to take proactive steps to protect both their physical and mental health – on and off the tools.
Tradies are the foundation of our industry building the homes we live in, the hospitals we rely on, the schools our children attend, and the infrastructure that keeps our cities running.
Manual handling and falls from height continue to be among the leading causes of injury – contributing to musculoskeletal disorders, temporary impairments, and life-altering injuries.
And it’s not just physical risks we need to address. Psychosocial hazards—like high work pressure, long hours, and isolation—can take a serious toll on mental health. Promoting a culture of psychological safety is just as vital as preventing physical harm.
With labour shortages and rising demands across the industry, protecting tradies’ health—both physical and mental—is more vital than ever. Preventable injuries and burnout cost us skilled workers we can’t afford to lose. Safety must be a daily commitment, not just a seasonal focus, because every tradie deserves to go home safe and well.
