In 2023, the inaugural Cricket Fundraiser was held at Phillip Oval. The Annual Cricket Fundraiser raises money for Hands Across Canberra, a local charity that collects and distributes funds to Canberran charities and community organisations. A team of generous MBA Members purchased player spots to create our MBA All-Stars team and face-off against Canberra’s fantastic national women’s team, the Canberra Meteors.
After a few sausage sizzles and a captivating game of cricket, the players and crowd gather to attend a charity auction, in which donated items are sold to the highest bidder and 100% of the profits are given to Hands Across Canberra.
MBA ACT is already looking forward to the 2024 Annual Cricket Fundraiser.
On Friday 3 March, the Strathnairn Charity House Cricket Fundraiser saw the ACT Meteors face-off against the MBA Allstars for the first time. The MBA Allstars team boasted teammates from: Kane Constructions, Martin Donnelly, Intravision, Riverview Projects, Empowered Electrical, Construction Control Australia, Sunny Homes ACT and OzHelp.
After a nail-biting finish, the MBA All-Stars missed out on the win. However, the match was close enough that Cricket ACT had to write a cheque for $1500 to cover the six ACT Meteors who were caught or bowled out.
Following the game, several items were auctioned, including a bat signed by the women’s 2016 Southern Stars team, a bat signed by the 2015-16 Men’s Test Series team, a signed ACT Meteors jersey and luxury hotel stays.
Thanks to all who contributed, an additional $23,000 was raised for Hands Across Canberra in the lead-up to the Strathnairn Charity House auction.
