CEO Update: Stay Safe and Stay Compliant

Stay Safe and Stay Compliant

There are now travel restrictions in place for people travelling from Victoria to the ACT and strong ACT Government advice about travelling from parts of Sydney. Now is the time for everyone in the construction industry to review their business continuity and risk management plans, to make sure your business has a plan in place in case delivery of building materials are delayed, or interstate construction workers cannot access the ACT, because of these restrictions.

The current spike in cases of COVID-19 will have a different impact on the local construction industry. In March and April, we were working with government to implement safety protocols which ensured the construction industry could continue operating, albeit with lower productivity.

However, the current border restrictions and potential for greater restrictions could mean that materials you have ordered are not allowed entry to the ACT. Similarly, workers which builders, suppliers or subcontractors rely upon may not be permitted entry into the ACT.

Master Builders ACT is working closely with the ACT Government on this is fast moving situation.

Now is also a great time to review your business’s COVID plan and to reinforce important social distancing and hygiene rules for your staff and contractors.

The local industry’s success in operating throughout the current spike in cases will depend on how well prepared your business is for increased restrictions.

Please keep monitoring the MBA’s COVID-19 web page for more information about how these restrictions impact the building and construction industry.
