Work Safe ACT action timely reminder of shared responsibility on construction safety

The announcement by WorkSafe ACT of its legal action in regard to the tragic death of a construction worker in 2016 highlights the shared responsibility of everyone in the industry to continue to improve the industry's safety culture and outcomes.

"One death or injury on a building site is too many which is why safety is Master Builders ACT's number one priority. Today's announcement reinforces the strength of our current workplace safety laws and the importance of effective independent government regulatory agencies such as WorkSafe ACT to enforce them," Michael Hopkins, CEO of Master Builders ACT said.

"The announcement by WorkSafe ACT also highlights that improving safety is a shared responsibility and that employers, workers, contractors and sub-contractors must all play a constructive role. Master Builders strongly supports the role of Workplace ACT to enforce compliance with workplace safety laws without which safety is undermined," Michael Hopkins said.

This was a tragic event and we offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of this worker.

ENDS.
